Dr. Shayla Mihelich has been dedicated to veterinary medicine since 2001, beginning her journey in various roles within the field before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Iowa State University in 2011. Her passion for helping those who cannot help themselves continues to be the driving force behind her compassionate and thoughtful approach to veterinary care.
Beyond the clinic, Dr. Mihelich leads a vibrant and creative life. She enjoys houseplants, macrame, knitting, cake decorating, and ghost hunting. A lover of the arts, she is also active in musical theater and performs in a local band, Sabatke and the Sirens. Life at home is full of energy with her two young children and an eclectic animal family that includes three dogs, a bearded dragon, two axolotls, and a variety of fish.
Her favorite quote beautifully reflects her deep respect for the human-animal bond:
We who surround ourselves with lives even more temporarily than our own live within a fragile circle; easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we would still live no other way. We cherish the memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan. – Irving Townsend
